Reflection
“With signs and wonders Yahweh brought us into this place and gave us
this land flowing with milk and honey.” Deuteronomy 26: 9
Good day, on this, the beginning of Daylight Saving and the first Sunday of Lent. Today is also national, “Get Over It” day. The scripture for reflection today is so reflective of beginnings as is the public descriptions of this day – day light, first, get over it … What is most striking about the reading from Deuteronomy is the fact that these words are part of Moses’ farewell speech before the tribes of Israel enter the Promised Land. Moses reviews God’s acts of salvation and the implication of salvation for new life. After years of suffering, wandering, re grouping, Moses can say to his people: “We are ready to enter the ‘land of milk and honey’.” We are also God’s people who in some way have suffered, wandered, and regrouped. So, for us, on this day of renewed light, of our Lenten journey and national get over it day, we stand with all followers of the Holy One as we move through this season in readiness to receive God’s Son – the authentic bearer to us of the gifts of “milk and honey.”
Prayer
I’m thanking you, God, from a full heart,
I’m writing this book on your wonders.
I’m whistling, laughing, and jumping for joy,
I’m singing your song, Holy One.
Psalm 9: 1-2
Personal Challenge
On this “get over it day,” new light day, write a note to yourself
naming what you need to get over; see light in order to receive
Jesus the Christ’s Easter gift of ‘milk and honey.’
