Reflection
“When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.” After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.” Luke 22: 14-20
The Last Supper is a central part of our lives as Christians…Jesus celebrating a meal with His friends. He knew that this was last time He would be with them at table. And He had a message during the sharing of bread and wine: “This is My Body, this is My blood given for you. Do this in memory of Me.” For a very long time I thought those words meant “celebrate” “My sharing of my Body and Blood with you.” My wonderment now is if He was not also asking me to give my body and blood in healing the world where I am as the “do this in memory of me.” It makes me think about where I choose to spend my time each day. And in being there, how do I give my body and blood for healing and peace to the people with whom I share space?
Prayer
Creator, Friend, Spirit, show me every day where You want me
to be, though it may not always be where I would choose to be.
Remind me that I am called to give all of myself to healing and
hope for those You put in my path.
Personal Challenge
As you live your day, pay attention to where and with whom
you are, and give with great generosity.
